Confluence Rebuilding Very Slow

I am a Confluence Admin and Version is 5.9. I pressed the Re-Building of Search Indexes 10 days ago and it is only 10% done. Did anyone face the same issue and if so can anyone suggest me a resolution for it.

It should take only a few minutes for smaller installs, increasing as the size goes up, but days is clearly too long.

I would want to look at the log file - what does that say it is doing?  Also, look at the general performance of the server - is it thrashing your network, disk, cpu, memory or database connection?
