Hello -
I'd like to confirm what data will actually transfer over for a Cloud-to-Cloud migration of Confluence information. Will Confluence whiteboards and databases copy over from the source to the destination instance during a migration? Or, is this work out of scope and should be manually recreated in the destination instance?
I've seen conflicting information in documentation.
Hello @Nikkita Willis
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
The page Transfer Confluence data includes a link to the page What data is copied. That page includes the section What Confluence data is copied and what isn’t
According to that Whiteboards and Databases do copy.
Disclaimer: I have not used the function before with a Confluence source that includes Whiteboards and Databases, so I have no direct experience to verify that it works.
Can you provide links to documentation that indicates transfer of Whiteboards and/or Databases is not supported? The information may be outdated.
Hey @Nikkita Willis ,
I've just tested this, and it appears that data within databases and whiteboards is being copied. ✅ So, the docs that Trudy linked should be correct.
The copied database contains all data, saved views, column types, and so on. (I have not yet tested whether inline/cell comments are also migrated)
Pretty much the same thing applies for the whiteboard - all native elements and custom ones (e.g., images) have been transferred. 👈
| What you could do, to test some complex examples, is create one dummy space and copy those databases and whiteboards there (together with other relevant content), and then only copy/transfer that specific space to a destination site. By doing so, you can confirm if everything will be transferred as expected, and if everything seems okay, you could transfer production spaces as well within another data transfer plan. 👀 |
Cheers,
Tobi
