Cloud Migration - Server to Cloud

CTCD Apps Manager September 20, 2021

Hi,

We plan to migrate our Confluence to Cloud, and I have few question before we started the process:

a. how will user license be calculated? will disabled user also counted?

b. if I already choose the subdomain and do the migration, can I do the migration again into other subdomain (incase I choose wrong subdomain name)?

Thanks

Hi @CTCD Apps Manager,

Welcome to Atlassian community!

At the beginning I will refer you to a suitable helper for migration -  Use the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant to migrate

To the first point: Atlassian writes:

  • Confluence Cloud is subscription-based and billed on a per-user basis. If you plan to migrate your users, make sure you check the licensing options available

  • If you use an external user management system, we recommend synchronizing it with your local directory before migrating. This is to make sure that your users and groups are up to date before you transfer any data.

  • Users with disabled status in your server site will be migrated as active but without any product access. This means they will not be counted as active Confluence users for billing purposes.

To your second point:

Yes, it should be possible, but you'll probably have to pay for 2 Cloud instances. Keep in mind, however, that it's still not possible for you to change the subdomain yourself at this time (More Easily Change Atlassian Cloud URL Domain ), but if you need to change the URL of the Cloud instance, it should be enough to create a ticket to Atlassian support and they will help you with this task.
