Can't edit connecting lines between ideas on whiteboard mindmap

Luís GÓIS

Dear Atlassian,

I'm trying to use Confluence whiteboards' mind map template but it's becoming increasingly frustrating to use due to some limitations or I simply can't find the right way to use it.

Given the example below:

mindmap.png

1) How can I connect "Contraints" as a child  of "Scope"? With Miro, This is as simple as drag and dropping "Contraints" onto "Scope". With Confluence, drag and drop doesn't work as the ideas keep on snapping back to their original locations, so I can't even reorder them.

2) How can I move "Resources" and "Timeline" to the right side of "Project Plan"?

Thanks

Hi @Luís GÓIS ,

The mind map template has some limitations compared to Miro's drag & drop. The "snapping back" is due to auto-layout in structured modes. You can try workarounds below as Whiteboards don't support Miro-style drag-drop for hierarchy changes in mind maps.

1) Connecting "Constraints" as a Child of "Scope"

  • Workaround: Select "Scope" node > Click the "+" (branch icon) in the toolbar or right-click > Add child node > Type "Constraints" (or paste from existing).
  • If "Constraints" exists: Delete it, then re-add as child. Or use connector tool: Select line tool > Drag from "Scope" to "Constraints" (converts to branch if possible). To reorder, cut-paste nodes (Ctrl+X/Ctrl+V) or use undo if snapping occurs.
  • Note: You can switch to "Freeform" mode (top toolbar > Layout > Freeform) to disable auto-snap for easier dragging -> then reconnect.

2) Moving "Resources" and "Timeline" to the Right Side of "Project Plan"

  • Mind maps default to left-right branching, but auto-layout can lock positions.
  • Manual reposition: Select "Resources" branch > Drag to the right side of "Project Plan" (hold Shift for free move if snapping). If it snaps back, toggle to Freeform mode first (as above), reposition, then switch back to Mind Map layout to rebalance.
  • For symmetry: Use the AI suggest (Rovo icon on the upper right corner) to regenerate layout, or manually add spacers (empty nodes) to force branches right.

As an admin, you can submit your feedback: Confluence > Help > Give feedback.

I hope everything works out well for you.

Best,

Peter
