Hello everyone,
I am new to working with confluence databases and i was wondering if there is the possibility to implement logic into the databases.
For example:
I have two databases
I have the "data" database with a column "critical" and a column "noncritical", which are both referencing to the "systems" database. Additionally i have columns with some more information.
I am using the backlink functionality in the "system" database to show the references from the "data" database. This shows me both the references from the "critical" aswell as the references from the "noncritical" column.
My goal is to show the additional information from the other columns only if it is referenced in the "critical" column.
Is this possible with the current functionality?
Or is something planned to implement this functionality?
Greetings
Andi
Hey Andi,
Currently, Confluence Databases do not support conditional logic or advanced display logic natively—such as showing additional information from referenced entries only when a specific reference (like "critical" vs. "noncritical") is present. The backlink functionality in Confluence Databases will show all references, but it does not allow you to filter or conditionally display additional fields based on which column the reference came from.
Key points:
Conditional logic (e.g., "show this field only if referenced as 'critical'") is not available in Confluence Databases at this time.
The ability to implement logic like this is a common feature request, but there is no public indication that this specific functionality is planned for Confluence Databases in the immediate roadmap.
Confluence Databases currently focus on structured data, customizable views, and relationships, but do not offer conditional display or logic-based field visibility.
Workarounds:
You can manually filter or sort views, but not based on the logic of how a reference was made.
For more advanced logic, you would need to export data and use external tools, or wait for future feature announcements.
Summary:
What you want to achieve—showing additional information only for "critical" references—is not possible with current Confluence Database features. There is no official announcement of this capability being planned for databases, though similar logic is being introduced in forms for Jira and business projects

Tanya
