Can I generate a document in Confluence using Data ?

I like to create a doc template and then pass data to it (JSON) and produce documents.

Right now, I can call the API and do it, but before I spend the time doing it, are there other options or marketplace apps? 

Looks like I need to learn the Atlassian Document Format (ADF), which I would like to avoid if I can.

That depends on what you need.

for example - if you want to have a Confluence page filled with Jira info such as release and more, then yes:
1. create a template of a page and set the JQL inside the Jira macro.

2. Then you will only need to create the page and replace the JQL with the correct info.
