you can change the default entry site completely. There's a plugin called "Custom Dashborards for Confluence". With this plugin you create a simple Confluence page with whatever you like and make this page to the default Homepage for your Confluence. Works great, we have a completely custom homepage with our company design and colors.
On your new default Homepage, you can add whatever you like, e.g. pictures which link to your spaces.
