Autocomplete settings to produce better search results?

I find that Autocomplete is often making suggestions that some basic configuration on a space (or at least my user) could easily filter out, so I'm looking to see if there are settings or a plugin somewhere that tweaks its behavior.

Specifically:

  • I never want Autocomplete to look outside the current space
  • It often does not list an exact match to what I've typed at the top of the list (more on this below)
  • When using the create link hotkey, if Autocomplete doesn't find anything I'd like it to assume that I want to create a new page link.

Regarding the exact match coming first, this is the most frustrating -- almost maddening -- behavior. I often will have a page whose title matches exactly what I've typed, but it won't be the first item in the list. This often comes into play when I have two pages with the same name, except that one ends in an "s". For example, if I have a page named "Mockup" and a page named "Mockups", and I am trying to create a link on the text "Mockup", it will almost always list "Mockups" first.

This is so, so frustrating because I often build "Glossary" pages that describe a good portion of the proper nouns in a space, both the single and plural form, and I am linking continuously as I type. Autocomplete always showing the plural form first is driving me nuts because the best match is right there but it won't use it, meaning that I have to stop typing, wait for autocorrect to pop up, scan the list, cursor down, and then hit enter, instead of just typing "[Mockups" and enter, and it figuring it out correctly.

If anyone knows something that can improve Autocomplete please let me know, or Atlassian please make it select the exact match first!!

Thanks,

Chris
