Auto Populate property fields when template is created

Is there a way to auto-populate properties when someone uses a button to open a template.    I want a field that the creator doesn't have to populate that is hidden but I can pull into reports.    I was looking to add these to property report.

  • Date Created
  • Space Name
  • Team

I don't see a way to add these to the property report without creating a property.

Have you considered utilizing variables in your templates? These would update based on your needs.

FYI - came across this just now.  The variables leave a lot be desired here.  I may be just pushing the idea of templates and page properties too far, but what I want is:

- Requester - a variable that autofills with the user's name who's creating the page

- date created - to auto fill to now (today's date)

- a pick list for state, that defaults to "Created"

I see that variables let me set the variable type, but there is no ability described there to auto fill them or do any other business logic.
