Are multiple Confluence logins possible simultaneously from the same computer?

Hi all, we have a 2000 Confluence Server license we're actively using and finding increasingly useful.  (Many thanks be to all who've helped that reality.)

Prior to a recent change prohibiting Firefox from being used, we would load Firefox and login to Confluence as a 'typical user' (we simply setup a generic username) and have that ready during the day to create &/or edit new content (we didn't want siteadmins names appearing as often), check permissions were usable etc.

Given that Firefox is no longer an option, Internet Explorer 11 has become unusable, and Chrome 'incognito' mode has been prohibited (for security reasons), we're not clear what practical options remain beyond finding a second computer just for that task (last resort?).

A number of us use this approach a lot (same person having immediate access to Confluence Server using two separate usernames from the same computer).  We'd like to continue the practice (or close) if at all possible.    Cheers - Hugh (Melbourne, Australia)

FYI I wasn't quite clear on how to word this question so happy to rename if OK to share ideas.  I searched separate login, multiple logins, multiple users, multiple browsers, and the like before posting this question to avoid duplication but couldn’t see anything related. If related content is found please let me know and I'll do best to link.

Three possible ways to do it:

  • Use a second browser (crome + firefox) [good in production]
  • Use a privat tab within the same browser [good in production]
  • Look for User Switcher for Confluence plugin [bad in production, only use in test environment as it allows you to impersonate any other user]

Talk to you IT department when they do not allow any of the first two options.

You say "same person having immediate access to Confluence Server using two separate usernames from the same computer".  It actually sounds like the security policies being put in place are designed to stop you doing that.

You really shouldn't have one person logged into a computer and then have two people using it.  By all means have a shared computer, but if you get people to log into it individually, they will have separate logins to Confluence even if they're using the same browser on it.

Are you able to create profiles in Chrome still?

You can be logged into Confluence under different accounts in each profile.
