Hi,

I don't have the ability to adjust a user's full name.  Although having admin rights.

Hello @Gyana Molina

it depends on whether the user account is managed or unmanaged.

If it is unmanaged, the user can update their own full name in id.atlassian.com.
If it is managed, the user cannot change it directly, and the update has to come either from the organization admin or from the connected identity provider.

Hi Arkadiusz,

Thank you for your reply. To give you a better understanding of the situation; It is an external user that has access to our platform. This is the message that I am getting: 'This account isn't managed by your organization' and 'Details are managed by user' - user is not able to do this himself.

Users are managed through our Entra/Azure AD environment and in this environment his name is entered with first and last name. So it is strange that his name is not synced (in Confluence) with his full name and only his first name.

Is there an other way that we can adjust his name to his first and last name?

@Gyana Molina

That message is the key part here.

If the account shows "This account isn’t managed by your organization" and "Details are managed by user", then you won’t be able to change the name from your side, even if you are admin.

So in this case, your Entra data is not the source of truth for that user in your Atlassian org. That also explains why the name is not just syncing over from Azure/Entra the way you would expect.

One nuance that may explain the “first name only” part: in Atlassian Cloud there is both a full name and a public name. Atlassian says users can edit both on their Atlassian profile, and Confluence uses that profile information to identify the user. So I would ask the user to check both fields here:

https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/profile-and-visibility

For unmanaged accounts, Atlassian says full name and public name are user-managed profile values.

If that user should be controlled from your side, then the real fix would be to have the account as a managed account in your org. As long as it stays external/unmanaged, I would not expect you to be able to correct the name centrally from Confluence admin or AD/Entra

Hi Arkadiusz,

Thank you for the clear explanation.

I have advised the user to check both fields. Hope this works for him.

Thank you for your support in this!
