Adding images to page overwrites all existing images with the same filename

Suppose you want to share the results of some simulations which all produced a different plot but the filename is the same in each case (but they are different images).

If you paste each image into the page, by the end, all images will be identical to the last one pasted.

I consider this a serious bug. This is not what I expect as a user. The only solution is to make sure all your image file names have different names.

@Bill Tubbs That is the way the product works. Confluence automatically versions the images for you if you upload a file with the same filename. There is a feature request here addressing the issue you are experiencing that you can vote for. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-70518

Until then you will need to rename the file, so it is recognized as a different file by Confluence.

That sounds like a frustrating issue — filename conflicts can definitely cause problems when managing media at scale. Using naming conventions or automatic renaming usually helps, avoid overwriting existing files, Clear systems like this make a big difference, just like well-planned upgrades do in other projectsBathroom Remodeling League City

Yeah I guess I'll have to re-write my script to make the resulting plots all have unique filenames.

I still don't like the fact that you can have multiple figures all showing the same image file. I suppose it could be useful in some situations, e.g. very large pages where you want to repeat a figure, but usually people number the figures and then refer to one instance of it. E.g. "see figure 1".

It also creates the very real danger that you overwrite the image for an existing figure when you add a new one (there is no warning that the image file already exists).
