I want to do the following:
add a box where users can add tasks to a task report without editing a page.
put all tasks in the table sorted by date and assigned to.
How would I do this?

Hi Felicity,
using the built-in tasks I think what you want, can not be achieved. The task feature in Confluence is very, very basic (Of course, if you can have Jira as well) and the Task report macro needs certain filters to build the report. And that task can not live outside a page unfortunately. Did you have a closer look at available apps on the marketplace that could suit your needs? I guess there are some providing a macro to build a task list, that then can be edited without having to edit the whole page. But I'm not sure how and even if they integrate with the Task report macro after all.
What is your Confluence hosting type - Cloud or Server/DC? In our Handy Macros for Confluence app for Server/DC we have Handy Tasks. Its an ugmentation for the native Confluence Tasks. With the help of Handy Tasks you can add tasks in the page view mode and quickly filter them on a page.
