Access to an Atlassian Cloud site after company bankruptcy – is data recovery possible?

Hello,

I’m trying to access an Atlassian Cloud instance:
https://dcode.atlassian.net

This site belonged to a company I previously worked for. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt some time ago and the Atlassian subscriptions were therefore no longer paid. It is possible (and even likely) that there are outstanding invoices or debts towards Atlassian.

Today, we would like to regain access to this space only to recover documentation for Confluence.

Some important context:

  • We still have access to the original company email addresses

  • We can still log in to the existing Jira/Atlassian user accounts associated with that domain

  • The goal is not to reactivate usage, but to understand:

    • whether access can be restored temporarily

    • or whether there is any official data recovery or export process in this situation

My questions are:

  1. Is it still possible to access or recover data from an Atlassian Cloud site after a long period of non-payment?

  2. Does Atlassian permanently delete Cloud data after a certain delay?

  3. Who should we contact (Atlassian Support, Billing, Legal?) to discuss recovery options in the context of a company bankruptcy?

Any guidance, similar experiences, or official Atlassian documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi @Admin dcode

Welcome to Atlassian community!!

I verified your site details and noticed that it was last billed on August 26 '2025.

Currently as per our data retention policy we retain data for 60 days post deactivation and then it will be permanently deleted.

You can still reach out to our billing team directly here https://www.atlassian.com/company/contact/purchasing-licensing#/ who can help you in reactivating your site.

However, recovering the site data is not possible at the moment.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,

Hi @Admin dcode

Your case requires Atlassian's assistance as this is not a technical issue. You may be required to provide some proofs or additional information which no one of us within the community can help you with.

I will ask for Atlassian's assistance, they will reach out to you.

Best,

Fadoua

Hello @Admin dcode

Recovering data after a "long" period of non-payment depends on how long that period was. Per the following information data is permanently deleted 60 days after the subscription is cancelled due to non-payment.

You must reactivate the site to recover the data. Reactivation has to occur within the 60 days after cancellation and requires that missed payments be completed.

Here is a quote from Atlassian documentation:

https://www.atlassian.com/licensing/cloud#what-happens-if-i-miss-payment-for-my-atlassian-product-subscription

What happens if I miss payment for my Atlassian product subscription

If payment fails for your Atlassian product subscription, you will be unsubscribed from all apps 15 days after the payment due date, at which point users will no longer be able to access the product.

Data retention

After you have been unsubscribed, Atlassian retains your data for 15 days for trial sites or 60 days for paid subscription sites.

Your data will be deleted 15 days for trial sites or 60 days for paid subscription sites after you have been unsubscribed due to missed payment for an Atlassian product subscription.

Atlassian won't delete any of your data stored in the Google Apps Marketplace, such as users or information in your Google Apps database, Google Docs, Gmail messages, Google Calendar entries, Google Chat, or Google Sites.

Resubscribing to an unpaid product

You can resubscribe by completing any missed payments within the 15 or 60 days after your site has been unsubscribed. Submitting payment once your site data has been deleted will not reactivate your subscription (or restore your site data).
