remote: Invalid credentials fatal: Authentication failed for 'https://bitbucket.org/....'

Uwe Risse March 18, 2025

I'm migrating to a new computer with Windows 11. SourceTree runs fine, and the OAuth authentification was successfull. Why am I still getting the following error? All works well on two other computers running Windows 10.

remote: Invalid credentials fatal: Authentication failed for 'https://bitbucket.org/....'

Hi, the only way I could bring it to work was to clone the AppData\Local\Atlassian folder from my old computer.

I really have no idea why it was not working. Everything essential (Sourcetree, Git, etc.) was correctly installed, and also authentification was successful with both OAuth or using my app password. Furthermore, I tried everything I found in numerous posts by users (or by Atlassian). Nevertheless, I still always got the error "Invalid credentials". Really strange.

Anyway, it's working now. The lesson learned is: Don't move to new computer unless REALLY needed ...

Regards, Uwe
