list and check the size of all feature branches

anil kumar K June 24, 2022

Hello,

Is there a way to list all feature branches in a project and also check the size of the same?

Thanks,

Anil

Hey Anil,

Checking for a list of branches can be performed in git by matching a search pattern using the git branch --list command, this would not include the project as this is purely present in the UI and therefore git does not know about these.

For example, if the branch had "feature" in the title, the wildcard matches branches which start with "feature" followed by * as a wildcard to match any text after this:

git branch --list 'feature*'

You could then capture the output of this command into a variable (for instance in bash) and then calculate the size of each branch returned from the above by using the git rev-list command:

git rev-list --disk-usage --objects HEAD..$branchname

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
