With SourceTree, can I create a "remote" repository on my local drive instead of using Bitbucket?

For learning sake, I'm just wondering if its possible to create a "remote" repository for my personal projects locally instead of Bitbucket.  I can create local repositories, but I can't seem to create a repository that acts like a remote repository.  Can somebody please point me in the right direction?
