Unable to upload build artifacts to Downloads

After closely following the instructions given here:

https://support.atlassian.com/bitbucket-cloud/docs/deploy-build-artifacts-to-bitbucket-downloads/

and following step 3b from these instructions, we are unable to upload the build artifacts. It looks like an authentication issue.

We spent about a day trying to get this up and running. Also by looking at the community support questions and other documentation, but no worky.  We have been trying to contact support, but this seems impossible via the website.

For anyone running into the same problem. We were able to solve this by:

  • Creating a dedicated 'service user' with write access to our repository.
  • Logging into Bitbucket using this service user's account
  • Creating a ATLASSIAN_API_TOKEN
  • Setting the ATLASSIAN_API_TOKEN and the ATLASSIAN_ACCOUNT_EMAIL as repository variables. ATLASSIAN_ACCOUNT_EMAIL is now the email of our service user

Now curl is able to upload our artifacts to the Downloads as advertised: great succes!

Strangely, this did not work with one of our other user accounts, which has the same repo write permissions. My guess is that the other user I tried is registered in Atlassian using another email-account than the one used for logging into Bitbucket
