Speed for pulling changes stays at full speed for a few seconds and then slows down to a crawl

We have massive files that get pushed, and we use git-lfs for it. Download speeds start out at full speed and then slow down to less than 20KB/s. 

To actually complete the pull, I usually have to cancel the pull, delete unversioned files and rollback the changes. Then delete the index.lock file and start the process again. I have to repeat this at least twice or thrice before the pull actually completes
