Request Garbage Collection

Esteve Dalmau June 10, 2025

Hi i have already removed a lot of space from our workspace but it keeps showing that we have more than 1GB. I'm requesting to run the Garbage Collection to update the value to the real one please.

Thanks!

Hi @Esteve Dalmau,

Your free workspace currently hosts multiple repositories totaling 1.4 GB, which exceeds the 1 GB limit for free workspaces. I performed garbage collection on some larger repositories, but it did not impact the overall size of the workspace. To enable garbage collection, you first need to reduce the repository size locally and then push those changes to the remote repository. Although garbage collection provides a temporary fix, as you continue working and might add more repositories, the total size is likely to exceed this limit again.

To address this issue, you have two self-serve options:
Option 1:

  • Upgrade to a paid plan and take advantage of our 30-day trial period. This allows you to restore functionality and gives you more time to shrink your repository directly without needing to delete any repositories. You can choose to continue or cancel your trial before the end of the 30-day trial period.
    • If you encounter any issues during this period - you can raise a ticket directly with our support team using your workspace URL: Atlassian Support

Option 2:

  • Consider deleting some repositories.

If the total size of all your repositories stays below 1 GB, you will be able to push changes again.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hi @Phil C ,

The issue We are facing is that the repository size shown on Bitbucket doesn't reflect the actual size. A few weeks ago, we removed a significant amount of data from several repositories, some of which were over 200MB. Now, the actual size of those repositories is under 30MB.

However, Bitbucket still shows the old size (200–300MB). For example, when I download the repository, the size is around 20MB, not 200MB.

Could you clarify why the displayed size hasn't updated and whether there's a way to trigger a recalculation?

Thanks,
