Problem after updating Bitbucket Server

rufp September 26, 2019

Hi

I have updated Bitbucket Server from 5.14.1 to 6.6.2. The update was ok but the service was no longer available. So I installed the service manually as documented. Now I have the following problem:

- if I start Bitbucket Server (not as a service) everything seems to be ok and I can see my repositories (with localhost:7990/)

- If I start Bitbucket Server as a service and I call localhost:7990/ then the setup-page is opened instead of displaying my repositories

What have I to change that the service takes the same configuration as Bitbucket Server as a program?

Thanks, Peter

Hello Peter,

Congratulations on upgrading to 6.6.2, sounds like we’re almost there in getting your service up and running. From your notes, it sounds like the Upgrade completed without issue but there is an issue with the account the service is running as which is preventing access to the needed Bitbucket folders/files which allows Bitbucket to run properly. Please review the following to fix this:

  • Ensure the service is running as a user who has access to the Bitbucket home folders
  • Ensure the proper owner is configured within the Bitbucket home folders

Further information on this may be found at Bitbucket Server home directory and Running Bitbucket Server as a Linux service.

I hope this information proves helpful and you’re able to get Bitbucket running as a service again.

Regards,
Stephen Sifers
