How do we manage users after linking Bitbucket to our organization?

Joe Lupfer August 6, 2025

Our company got the Email directing us to link Bitbucket to our organization which currently has JIRA.
During the process though I see this concerning message:

Link Bitbucket

You won't be able to administer users, groups, and access for this workspace in Atlassian Administration. You also can't unlink this workspace or transfer it to another organization once it's linked.

The link at the end of the message doesn't explain how an administrator can manage users after linking Bitbucket.
We don't have a high turnover of Bitbucket users here but loosing the ability to manage users seems to be a non-starter.

Would you care to comment on this?

Hi @Joe Lupfer

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

What the message is trying to say is that you cannot assign users to workspaces in Bitbucket from within admin.atlassian.com, you would still have to do that from within Bitbucket. This is similar to Trello. What you will gain by linking Bitbucket to your organization is that you assign access to Bitbucket and users can be automatically deactivated when they off-board, either from within administration or via your IDP.

OK,

So, my understanding is users can be added using the existing Bitbucket process.

They can be removed using the admin from the organization page like we do with JIRA.

Do I have this right?
