Getting 500 error when creating a new PR. Is there a work around for this?

Today I am suddenly unable to create a new PR in bitbucket. I've tried in Chrome and Firefox and tried clearing caches. I get the same 500 error. Is anyone else seeing this? Does any one have any insight on the problem or a workaround for creating PRs?

Turns out we had too many branches and tags open in our repo, leading to timeouts.
