Can't Push git index to reduce Repo size due to size lock for being over quota

Pat C June 5, 2025

I'm over quota because of the size of my git index.

I have fixed this locally, but I am unable to push the change due to a lock on the repo by atlassian.

What needs to be done in order to push this change to get the repo under the quota?

Hello @Pat C

To address the issue with pushing your changes, you have a couple of options.

One option is to take advantage of our 30-day trial by temporarily upgrading your plan. This will enable your workspace to accept new pushes. Once you have successfully pushed your changes and reduced the repository size, you can choose whether to cancel the trial or continue with a paid plan.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to upgrade, you can delete the existing repository that is over the quota and push your locally cleaned-up version to a new repository. It's important to note that this new repository will not retain metadata from the original, such as pull request history, pipeline runs, and repository configurations.

If you need further assistance with either option, please let us know.

Thank you, @Pat C !
