April 24, 2026

I just discovered on April 20 2026 that all my workspaces and repos have disappeared from my bitbucket account.

I have been using bitbucket as main git remote for over 10 years. I used to host the main source of a subsection of my projects on it.

After receiving the announcement last year that Altassian would schedule for deletion workspaces that have not been accessed for more than 6 months with an option to reactivate them until May 15 2026, I observed the situation. Even if I did not commit to remote for over a year, I am constantly logged into the bitbucket website on all my clients with all my repos visible for reference.

Last week I discovered that al my repos were gone. Under the All Workspaces page, no workspaces are shown. Therefore no "reactivate this workspace" button, which according to the original message should be visible, is accessible.

This is my current account screen:

For some time I had seen my repos and projects being moved in the UI to different places, but they were still accessible. Now everything is gone.

If it may help: all my workspaces had all caps names, now bitbucket allows only small caps names for workspaces.

What can I do?

Hi @KONSTRUKTEUR

You are correct that your workspace/account was marked DORMANT as per the cleanup, this occurred because there was no activity on the account.

There is supposed to be a self service option to recover, but there are some issues being encountered with it that our engineering team are investigating.

I've manually re-activated your user account/workspace, please consider migrating to a team workspace as personal workspaces are deprecated:

Cheers!

Dear Ben, thank you very much for your kind assistance.

Yes my last commit was on September 05th 2025. The webpage is constantly open on the repository section though.

I am currently trying to migrate all data to my own Gitea server.

Screenshot 2026-04-27 at 07.39.22.png

After starting the generic migration process for a repo, I get the following error:

Migrating from X failed.
authentication failed: clone error: exit status 128 - remote: You may not have access to this repository or it no longer exists in this workspace. If you think this repository exists and you have access, make sure you are authenticated. fatal: Authentication failed for 'X'

I tried my bitbucket login username and password as well as a newly created API token.

There are also specific migration processes for other providers, but not a dedicated bitbucket process.

I get:

Migrating from X failed.
GET X: 401 []

Could you point me into the correct direction?
Thanks in advance!
