How to disable stages for branches in Bamboo?

Is there a way to just disable certain stages in branches while on master/trunk all stages will run? Or do I have to split this into two plans: one with "disabled for branches"-stage only included which doesn't know branches and one with branches but disabling build for main/trunk?!

This is an annoyance to use as well but we have a stage in the plan that runs a script that validates what branch the build is running against. We then trigger a plan outside the original one and do to a call back to start the next stage only if it's on a branch or branches we want progressing
