Bamboo-New to Continuous Integration

Can you please tell me why we need a database (Postgres/ MySQL/ Oracle) with Bamboo? I do not understand what purpose the DB here serves? Is it just to have a database regarding all the builds that have happened? Is it from this DB that we get the build trends/ details about test runs/ code coverage etc? SORRY IF MY QUESTION IS TOO DUMB...BUT THIS IS MY FIRST JOB AND I'M TRYING TO UNDERSTAND.

Its where the results are stored, various configs etc.
