constant authorization timeouts

this tool would be significantly more useful if it worked for more than 30 minutes at a time.  when using it with codex, i have to exit and resume the session constantly, all day long, or subsequent calls 401.  Same with claude code.  

if i have a long running session going, it will timeout before it gets to the part of documenting it at the end.  we are getting ready to move to a 3rd party mcp just bc this is so unbelievably annoying.  whats the plan for this?

I had the same issue yesterday. on a long running session, I had to disable/enable the mcp so it triggered a reauth. the mcp is very useful for planning multiple tickets etc, so long running sessions should be supported. happy to help debug this in any way I can.

On a side note, we are prioritising reducing the token consumption on multiple releases. I will update the other thread once the first optimization is in.

Yeah technically the connection should be active as long as the agent is active "up to 90 days of inactivity".

So the behaviour you're expecting should be the normal.

you are acting like this isn't reproducible, which i find odd.  are you trying this from coding tools like claude code CLI, codex cli, and cursor? this has never NOT acted this way for me.

Yeah, this is a current limitation of Atlassian’s MCP auth layer — sessions expire after ~30 minutes and downstream calls start returning 401 even if the client is still active. It’s affecting long-running Codex/Claude Code workflows and there’s no user-side fix beyond constant re-auth. Atlassian has acknowledged it internally and longer-lived tokens / refresh handling are reportedly on the roadmap, but no ETA yet.

Thanks for your feedback, Could you please confirm if you still see this behaviour in the last few days? we introduced a change last week and before few fixes that should fix this problem.

The primary case we are trying to solve now is when a client is stuck with an old refresh token which leads to full re-auth/consent.

So would be great if you can confirm if the 30mins issue still happening or not, also if the re-auth timing happens after 30mins or 60mins plus what is the frequency of this happening.

• The MCP connection/authentication is lost about 30min or so
• I have to turn it off/on to reconnect (not reauthorize)

Hi!
I am having the same issue with the MCP server.
Using Cursor or claude or any other tool.
It all works fine for a little while.. then it just refuses to work.
I have to wait a few minutes, restart the MCP connection, work some more, then re-start the proceedure.
It gives alot of connection failures.

this is in the middle of a tool invocation.
lets say I have 10 requests.. and then after 5 it gets a timeout, and is disconnected.
I have to wait, then reconnect and try again, and again.. then eventually it might go through. annoying as it has to batch all requests to ensure it can catch these interuptions.

What is the latest on this from the Atlassian Team? Every client i use with this MCP server is in a constant state of failure.  It needs reconnecting or reauthenticating on a regular basis. if i go days i have to remove and readd the app to desktop clients like chatgpt or claude desktop. you say a fix was made, but nothing has changed.

can you also clarify if this is reproducible by your internal teams? are you somehow authenticating differently than we are from outside your org?

Hey Ibraheem, we're unfortunately still experiencing it over here, every hour or more often, even. The known workaround of disabling+enabling the MCP in Cursor Settings fixes it until the next oauth expiry.
