Introducing a refreshed experience for Atlassian Administration

Hi Community, I'm Lauren, a PMM looking after Atlassian Administration and our billing platforms.

You told us that finding the right settings in Atlassian Administration could be easier, and we listened. We’re excited to share that we’ve made several meaningful improvements to the admin experience based on your feedback.

Starting Aug 4, 2025, we’re rolling out these key enhancements designed to help you find what you need, faster:

  1. We’ve reorganized and renamed sections in the sidebar to make navigation simpler and more intuitive. These changes are based on your feedback and are designed to help you find features and settings more efficiently.

  2. We’re bringing Atlassian’s new global navigation - which has already rolled out to Jira and Confluence - to Atlassian Administration, creating a more consistent experience across apps. Learn more about Atlassian’s global navigation here.

  3. Atlassian Administration will receive a modern visual refresh - updated colors, fonts and icons for a cleaner, more accessible look and feel.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent usability studies and shared feedback - you’ve played a key role in shaping this experience, and we look forward to continuing to collect and incorporate your feedback.

Demo video: see what’s coming

Watch this short demo video of the full experience, including the updated global navigation and the refreshed feature organization:

Before and after: what’s changing in the sidebar?

Note: this view of Atlassian Administration may differ for you depending on your role and permissions.

When is it happening?

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve usability, we’ll be gradually rolling this out from early August to early October:

Phase

Date

What You’ll See

Early rollout begins

August 4, 2025

Admins start seeing either 1) Global navigation or 2) Global navigation and the new information architecture.

Phased rollout continues

August - October

Gradual increase in rollout across admins based on feedback.

Full rollout completion

October 6, 2025

All admins will see both the updated navigation and the new information architecture.

Note: we’re rolling out these changes progressively, so you may initially see just the new navigation or the full experience at first. A modal within Atlassian Administration will notify you of these updates one week prior to their implementation.

When this update becomes available to you, you will have the ability to toggle between the current and new experiences to get familiar with the changes and to give feedback. Once rollout is complete in early October, the new experience will become the standard and the toggle will be removed.

We’re excited to bring these improvements to you, and if you have thoughts or questions about this new experience, we’d love to hear from you in the comments. Thank you for helping to shape the future of Atlassian Administration.

It's nice that the UI will be consistent with the products.
I don't know if I would say the new UI is actively better than the old one. The few improvements I've seen so far, navigation wise, I think would have been doable in the old UI as well.
But consistency is always better than inconsistency.

I'm not entirely excited about the general approach of "just use the search bar to find it".
I fear it can become an excuse to not bother creating an actually easily navigable set of menus.

Do we have a list of what has been renamed and what has been moved around (to and from)?

And is it possible to request having the new navigation applied actively or do we just have to be patient and wait our turn?

I like the consistency with the new UI in other apps.

Btw, any chance 🖤 dark theme is coming to Atlassian Administration as well? 🙃

This looks like a really welcome update! Cleaner navigation and a more consistent experience across products definitely makes a difference in day-to-day admin work. Looking forward to trying out the new layout once it rolls out ✨

Thanks for making these improvements! 👏

Hey @Rune Rasmussen, thank you for your feedback and great questions. A full list of what has been renamed and is moving will be available when this change launches in August, and we will follow up with that here.

The new navigation cannot be requested early, it will be rolled out during the August - October period. It can be turned off until the rollout period completes, however.

Any changes to overall functionality, or improvements to Enterprise Org administration settings?

I can't say I love the new UI, it feels like some important things are harder to find now - but I'm open to the idea of these being consistent, and ideally customizable more than they currently are.

Hey @Tomislav Tobijas Dark mode is a highly requested feature, and we’re actively working on it. While we’re not quite ready to share a release date yet, stay tuned - we’ll be sure to post updates in the community as soon as we can. Appreciate your patience and excitement!

So, basically taking the changes I hated on the products and applying them to the admin experience. All of these changes have been pointless steps backwards in ease of use.

I'll leave this here: 'Miller's Law, in the context of UX design, suggests that the average person can only hold about 7 (plus or minus 2) items in their short-term memory at once. This principle highlights the importance of chunking information into manageable pieces to reduce cognitive load and improve user experience. Essentially, designers should aim to break down complex information into smaller, more easily digestible chunks rather than overwhelming users with too much information at once.'

It would be possible to enable the dark mode feature in the Atlassian Administration?

Thanks! :-)

Thanks for the update, @Laur .
Consistency across the Atlassian ecosystem is definitely a step in the right direction.

In the new Jira design, there’s a "Customize Sidebar" option under the navigation section. Is there any chance we’ll see a similar feature in Atlassian Administration?

I like the coming update as well.

Since I like dark mode and fellow admins here are asking for it as well you definitely should consider this :)

Will the search function return multiple result with the same name as well? I think of the current menu connected apps which is available for every site. This is only relevant of course if you won't change this to one menu with a site dropdown switch or the like.

Great update! One question though, will the search bar support user search for customers who are still on the old user management experience? And for the new user management experience, will it search both managed and unmanaged accounts?

I agree with @chris_b and @Rune Rasmussen , it's great to have consistency, but I don't see an improvement on this UI except better use of wide screeens.

For the Atlassian Admin app (it's an app, right?), I appreciate the nav being moved from up top to the left.

I hope that the "search everything" bar catches all the key features, and is performant. 🙏

Thanks @Lauren Rodolico - it looks real good and I agree with all comments above. I also love the fact that there are a few more top level nav items like Insights ...

Looking forward to the refresh and hoping dark mode makes it's way in with this too.

Would also be happy to give any feedback once we have it too!

Thank you

Hi everyone!

@Dave Liao no it is not. Recently they have announced that Products (Jira, Confluence, etc.) will now be named Apps.

It would be also very nice if Atlassian introduces some improvements in some of the functional aspects for admins, especially when it comes to bulk operations. I think bulk updates from the UI for groups / users would be awesome - like the option to bulk deactivate users (stale).

Otherwise, I am also happy to see consistency in the new UI approach across the different apps in the platform.
