Atlassian Analytics vs eazyBI

Hi Community 👋

I read a detailed article about Atlassian Analytics and its capabilities around unified reporting, dashboards, AI-powered insights, and cross-product analytics. It looks very powerful, especially with the Atlassian Data Lake and external data sources.

That said, I’d like to understand how eazyBI (from the Atlassian Marketplace) fits into this picture.

Specifically:

  • In what scenarios would eazyBI be a better choice than Atlassian Analytics?

  • Are there reporting or customization use cases where teams still prefer eazyBI?

  • How do performance, flexibility (MDX vs SQL), and cost typically compare?

  • Is eazyBI commonly used alongside Atlassian Analytics, or do teams usually choose one over the other?

I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who has hands-on experience with both Atlassian Analytics and eazyBI, especially in Jira reporting scenarios.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Hi Peter,

I have worked on EazyBi and Atlassian Analytics.

Here is the response to your queries:-

  • In what scenarios would eazyBI be a better choice than Atlassian Analytics?
    • Seamless integration with other JIRA plugins like Tempo (For timesheet data and reporting) with simple API token authorization.
    • EazyBi should be preferred if the target products are- JIRA and JIRA Service Management, as confluence needs separate eazyBi product (EazyBi for Confluence).
    • The learning curve for eazyBi is "easy" comparing to atlassian analytics (report builder) which can be overwhelming if Atlassian Intelligence is not enabled in the product. Furthermore, you might need some time to learn visual SQL for making custom reports in which you can include the fields that are not generally available in the table columns (view count or any count-related system field). On the contrary, MDX and report-specific measures can be learned quite easily, with bonus of EazyBi AI builder, which helps to create MDX formulae and reports if context is clear for the report.
  • Are there reporting or customization use cases where teams still prefer eazyBI?

    • The reporting can really depend on what type of data your project has, for example, if your service management project has country codes mapped to the countries in asset, you can use heatmap of tickets where they were created. in atlassian analytics, you are limited to charts, funnels, pie chart, number chart etc.
  • How do performance, flexibility (MDX vs SQL), and cost typically compare?

    • For cost, you might need to check with atlassian page (i.e your plan) & eazyBi page for pricing.
  • Is eazyBI commonly used alongside Atlassian Analytics, or do teams usually choose one over the other?

    • EazyBi has been the #1 choice for JIRA/JSM product since the data center/server era. The usage can be subjective; based on the usage, they might like analytics as it comes under atlassian ecosystem and might shift to it if projects have confidential data.

Hope this answers your questions.

It's been a while since I looked at both closely but here's my take.

eazyBI pros:

  • Can embed reports/dashboards anywhere that supports iframes (Analytics can only embed to Confluence).
  • Very easy to drill into underlying data for report debug.  Analytics requires you to create cross-chart links which can itself have bugs.
  • Easier learning curve.
  • Much easier report tweaking/modification once you have a base report in place.

Analytics pros:

  • Dashboards have change history.
  • Cross-chart connections.
  • Dashboard performance information is provided.
  • Easy markup/formatting of dashboards.
  • Easy to toggle individual series on/off in a chart.
