Controls update: a new look + upcoming removal of the date slider

Starting June 22, 2026, we will be introducing updates to your dashboard controls on Analytics. We're making improvements to make controls easier to use, and we're also announcing the upcoming removal of the "Date slider" control. Read on for details on what's changing and how to prepare.

sparkles What's new: a fresh look for controls

We are making updates to make interacting with controls more intuitive. Here's what to expect:

Add a control title directly

You will no longer need to use the Content editor to create a title for your control. You'll be able to add a control title directly from the control form.

Note about the new controls: The height of all controls will be increased to accommodate the new control titles. As a result, the layout of your existing controls may look slightly different after June 22, 2026. You may need to manually adjust the layout of your controls to suit your preferences.

A note on downloading dashboards that use control titles: Controls with titles will not appear on downloaded pdf’s. Our team is actively working to resolve this issue.

Background colors: You will no longer be able to apply background colors to your control. This decision was made to offer a more accessible experience.

Date slider control: You will no longer be able to create new "Date slider" controls . You will still be able to edit and copy your existing ones for a period of time, until they are fully removed from your dashboard which will begin August 1, 2026.

We understand this change may require some adjustments to your existing dashboards. We have put together step-by-step guidance below to help you prepare for the transition to the "Calendar" control.

tear-off calendar How to replicate your date slider using the "Calendar" control

The "Calendar" control is the recommended alternative. It will allow you to filter charts by a single date or a date range. Unlike the "Date slider" control, it does not include an interactive visual timeline. However, you will still be able to view spikes of activity by connecting it to an area chart — see Option 2 below.

We recommend using your existing "Date slider" as a reference when configuring the "Calendar" control. Arranging two browser tabs side-by-side can make it easier to compare settings.

There are two ways to replicate your date slider:

  1. Narrow down data to a specific date range

  2. Display spikes of activity using an area chart

Option 1: Narrow down data to a specific date range

  1. Select Control > Calendar from the dashboard sidebar.

  2. Optionally, add a title to your control.

  3. For Calendar type, select Date range.

  4. Edit the Default start and end dates using fixed dates, or use a combination of relative date variables and date and time functions for dynamic filtering.

  5. Select Add, then place the control anywhere on your dashboard.

To connect your Calendar control to a chart using a visual mode query:

  1. Open the chart editor by creating a new chart or editing an existing one.

  2. In the Filters section of your visual mode query:

    1. Add the date column you want the control to filter.

    2. Select the filter operator (most people use between and including).

    3. Reference your control using its dashboard variable name:

      • If the "Data type" is Date, use {CALENDAR_NAME}

      • If the "Data type" is Date range, use {CALENDAR_NAME.START} and {CALENDAR_NAME.END}

      • Replace CALENDAR_NAME with the dashboard variable name of your control.

  3. Select Run query, then Save to dashboard.

Option 2: Display spikes of activity with an area chart

To view activity spikes within a date range, create an area chart and connect it to a Calendar control.

Step 1 — Create an area chart:

  1. Select Create > Chart from the global navigation, or Add chart from the dashboard sidebar.

  2. Select Custom chart > Go to chart editor.

  3. Select a date column and a numerical column with corresponding values.

  4. Select Area chart.

  5. Select Run query to preview, then Save to dashboard.

Step 2 — Connect your Calendar control to the area chart:

  1. Hover over the chart and select More actions > Edit chart.

  2. In the Filters section, add your date column and select between and including as the operator.

  3. Use {CALENDAR_NAME.START} and {CALENDAR_NAME.END} to reference your Calendar control.

  4. Select Run query, then Save to dashboard.

Once you have configured your "Calendar" control, you will be able to remove your existing "Date slider" from the dashboard.
