Inside Atlassian: Exclusive Interview 🎙️ with Confluence’s Head of Product

At Team ’25 Europe in Barcelona, we, the K15t team, caught up with Jefferson Taylor, Atlassian’s Head of Product for Confluence.

What followed was a deep chat about culture, AI, and how Atlassian’s product strategy is shaping the future of teamwork.

Here’s why this conversation stands out and what you’ll take away from it:

Culture Comes First đźŚ±

One of the most memorable moments was Jefferson’s take on team culture. Tools, automation, and AI only work when people are open to sharing and experimenting. Technology can’t fix that part for you.

“AI will not fix bad culture. The more open a culture is, the more intelligent your tools will be, the more effective people are at working together.”
— Jefferson Taylor

It’s a simple idea that carries a lot of weight. Real collaboration happens when curiosity and openness are part of everyday work.

Behind the Curtain of Product Decisions đź”Ť

When we asked about things like missing APIs or disconnected features, Jefferson didn’t dodge the question. He explained that these decisions are about timing and impact, not about ignoring user needs.

Sometimes the team has to focus on major new capabilities like Create with Rovo or natural-language database creation before tackling foundational work such as APIs. He was clear that APIs for Confluence databases are overdue, but still planned.

The User Experience: Honest Progress âš™ď¸Ź

Jefferson was open about the fact that Confluence is still evolving. The team is focused on improving accessibility, refining workflows, and delivering a more consistent experience on both desktop and mobile.

He also talked about how integrations are becoming a bigger part of that story.

Why Confluence Still Matters đź’ˇ

Jefferson spoke with genuine enthusiasm about why Confluence remains central to how teams work. As more teams collaborate asynchronously across time zones, Confluence provides a shared space where ideas turn into knowledge and knowledge turns into action.

See for Yourself đźŽĄ

Talking with Jefferson was a good reminder that collaboration takes more than just the right software. It takes openness, patience, and the freedom to explore new ways of working.

If you want a better sense of where Confluence and Atlassian are heading next, this interview is well worth your time.
