Hey Community,

I’m Anika, Principal Product Manager for Atlassian Projects. A few months ago, we shared that Projects was becoming a Platform App. Well that rollout is now complete. You should now see Projects available directly from the Atlassian app switcher, making it easier for your teams to find and use.

A quick refresher: what is Projects?

The Projects app streamlines project communication across all your teams, no matter where the work happens. It gives everyone a single place to answer:

  • What are we doing, and why does it matter?

  • Who owns it?

  • How is it going?

Project owners share concise updates, while stakeholders and leaders get the visibility they need - without digging through emails, chats, or multiple tools.

What’s changed?

Previously, Projects lived in the Home app. With this change:

  • Projects appears as its own Platform app in the app switcher (just like all the other apps you love)

  • Project filters (Following, Archived) have moved to the left side navigation
  • It’s easier for teams to discover and access

  • It’s better connected with other Atlassian apps so you can easily navigate between Projects → Goals, Projects → Jira and so on.

Get started with Projects

We can’t wait to see how your teams use Projects for deeper collaboration, greater visibility, and faster, more informed decision-making. Ready to get your teams up and running? Start by exploring our support documentation.

Drop a comment below and share how you’re using Projects today and any feedback on how we can make it even more valuable for your teams.

The best place to communicate in non-technical or business language!

  • The best place for alignment
  • The best place for project updates
  • The best place to keep the train on time

Thanks, Platform teams, for this clear differentiation!

Great news. Now I'm interested to see what the roadmap brings in terms of new developments. I'd be interested to see the ability to view Status updates by month or week, as different stakeholders want different views.

For me, it's still unclear why I should use a project over tracking epics in the Jira tab. It feels like I have to do double administration if I use a project and link an epic to it. Or at least have to seperate communication across different places.

Personally, i would expect to see a Project containing a bundle a collection of epics/initatives, tracking their progress and having someone to report the overall status in the project tab.

However, when I'm creating a Project it seems I can only connect one epic to it. Could you elaborate more on the use case and context of Jira Projects? The current documentation on Projects couldn't help me in clarifying the added value.

At the moment it makes more sense to track progress in the linked themselves, or create a custom product type that allows you to bundle epics together
