Turn Confluence into a True "Live" CMS: How AI Can Automate Your App's Content & Localization

Hi everyone,

Let's talk about one of the most common "small" tasks that creates a surprising amount of work: updating the text in our applications. The workflow is so familiar that we've accepted it as normal, but is it efficient?

A Product Owner (PO) writes feature specs in Confluence, then creates Jira tickets for developers to update UI text. The developer finds the right i18n key, updates the JSON file, and the change waits for the next release.

This process is slow and pulls developers away from building features. What if we could create a workflow where Confluence wasn't just for documentation, but was the actual source of live content for your app? What if an AI could act as the bridge between the PO's ideas and the developer's code?

That's why I created Quick Locale AI (QLAI), a new Confluence app designed to completely automate this workflow.

From a Simple Page to a Live-Managed App

Imagine a PO is drafting a plan for a new user dashboard. They write naturally on a Confluence page:

"Okay team, for the new dashboard, the main title should be 'My Personal Dashboard'. Below that, let's add a greeting that says 'Welcome back, we're glad to see you!'. We also need a button labeled 'View My Stats'."

Traditionally, the next step would be to manually create i18n keys and file a Jira ticket. But with QLAI, the magic happens next.

How QLAI Works: An AI-Powered Workflow

QLAI transforms this process by understanding the content directly on your page. Here’s how:

Step 1: The AI Scans Your Page Once installed, QLAI’s AI gets to work. It reads your Confluence page and intelligently distinguishes between regular text and text meant for end-users. It understands that "The title should be..." is a note for the team, but "My Personal Dashboard" is the actual content your users will see.

Step 2: The Localization Table is Born QLAI automatically creates a localization table right on your Confluence page. It takes all the user-facing text it found and populates the table with clean, ready-to-use keys.

Screenshot 2025-06-23 at 5.45.06 PM.png[Image: Shows a Confluence page with free-form text, then a formatted table with keys like dashboard.title and dashboard.welcome_greeting magically appears below it.]

Step 3: Auto-Translate and Auto-Update The PO simply selects their target languages (e.g., German, Spanish) in the app's settings. QLAI then uses AI to translate every string in the table.

Even better, the table is now "alive." If the PO adds a new sentence to the page later, QLAI detects it and automatically adds it as a new row in the table, complete with a new key and translations!

Step 4: Live Edits from Confluence This is the superpower for Product Owners. Need to change a word? Don't create a ticket. Just edit the text directly in the Confluence table. The moment you finish typing, the change is pushed to the QLAI server and is instantly live on your website or app. No "publish" button, no delays.

Step 5: The Developer's Dream The developer's job is now reduced to its simplest form. They look at the Confluence table, find the key they need (e.g., dashboard.view_stats_button), and copy the path.

In the code, they simply use that path with their i18n library: t('dashboard.view_stats_button')

They do this once. They never have to think about that piece of content again.

What This Unlocks for Your Team

This isn't just a small improvement; it's a new way of working.

  • For Product Owners:

    • Automated Key Creation: Stop thinking about i18n key names. Write naturally and let the AI handle the structure.
    • True Live Editing: You are now in direct control of the app's content. Fix typos or run A/B tests on messaging in seconds.
    • Centralized Content: Your Confluence page is the single source of truth for your app's copy and translations.
  • For Developers:

    • Zero Content Tickets: Eliminate the back-and-forth for text changes and focus on complex problems.
    • Clean and Clear: Get perfectly formatted, context-aware keys directly from the source of documentation.
    • Set It and Forget It: Connect to the QLAI service once and never worry about manual updates to language files again.

Give it a Try

If your team is looking to close the gap between documentation and production, and you want to empower your product owners while freeing up your developers, I encourage you to give QLAI a look.

So you’ve basically reinvented translation apps like Localize, but without features like a translation memory or git integration? Bonus points for any app breaking as soon as your product stops beeing supported. Doesn’t sound like a viable idea.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. You're hitting on some critical points for anyone considering a new tool, especially regarding long-term viability and risk.

You're right that we're in the same space as platforms like Lokalise, but we're obsessed with solving a different part of the problem. Our core mission is to fix the chaotic, manual hand-off between Product Owners and Developers that happens before a mature translation tool is even needed. We automate the initial content creation, key generation, and translation right where the requirements are born: Confluence.

To address your excellent point about support and dependency (which is super important!), we've built-in a few key "de-risking" features from day one:

1- Static File Generation: You can always generate and download static JSON or YAML files for all your languages. Your app can use these files directly, meaning it has zero dependency on our live servers to run.
2- Watch Script: We provide a script that you can integrate into your build process (CI/CD) to fetch the latest content and save it locally when you build your app.
This ensures your application will never break if our service is unavailable. The content from the links we provide is permanent.

Regarding features like Git integration and Translation Memory, our initial focus has been on perfecting that Confluence-to-code pipeline first. Many teams use our tool to streamline the workflow and then commit the resulting static files to their Git repo as the permanent record.

The feedback has been really positive, and we're excited that about 15 companies have successfully adopted this workflow without any issues so far.

Thanks again for the sharp questions! It's exactly this kind of feedback that helps us build a better, more resilient tool.

Hi @QuickAI

You posted this in the Questions for Confluence forum.  The correct place would be in the marketplace apps forum.  I'll move it for you.
