Snowflake for Jira export sudden language change

Hi all,

A week ago my Snowflake for Jira export suddenly changed language for the "status" column. For example: Done -> Gereed; Doing -> Doen; To Do -> TO DO; Rejected -> Afgewezen. (Maybe other columns changed too, I did not check all).

To revert this change I updated my Language from Dutch to English (US) in "Account preferences". Now the status column is back in English format as it was before the change.

I suspect this change is a consequence of the Atlassian Cloud changes Sep 8 to Sep 15, 2025 update. Particularly the export to excel changes like Export default fields and Improved performance and reliability for CSV exports. But I am not sure.

Has anyone else noticed this change in the Snowflake for Jira exporter? Is this intended behaviour? Does anyone have suggestions for ensuring that my data export does not suddenly change language again in the future?

Many thanks :)

Hello, Lianne Groot,

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Historically, many background "Exporters", such as those used by Snowflake, Power BI, or Excel connectors, defaulted to the System Language or a hardcoded English (US) locale. With the recent "Improved performance and reliability for CSV exports" update, Jira has shifted towards a more "User-Centric" export approach.

Now, the export engine checks the individual Profile Preferences of the user authorized to perform the Snowflake sync. If your account was set to Dutch, the export engine "helpfully" translated the Status names into Dutch for the CSV/Data stream

To keep your data consistent despite changes in individual user profiles, I recommend three steps:

  • First, do not use your personal account for the Snowflake sync. Instead, create a dedicated "Service Account" (such as jira_sync@company.com) with the language set specifically to English (US). This approach helps prevent your personal UI settings from interfering with the data pipeline.
  • Second, if feasible, synchronize the statusId field instead of statusName with the Snowflake connector, since IDs (such as 10001) are not impacted by language modifications.
  • Third, set your Jira System Language (Settings > System > General Configuration) to English. While user preferences often take precedence, having a consistent default provides additional reliability.

Cheers,
Martin
