Integrating GitLab on-prem with Jira Cloud options

I have been tasked with connecting my company's on-prem GitLab (aka GitLab Self-Managed) to our Jira Cloud site, and although GitLab's documentation is very easy to follow, I am concerned that the GitLab for Jira app is not on Forge.

I can't find any news/updates/information from GitLab about plans to migrate their add-on, and with Connect EOL slated for Q4 CY2026, I am wondering if anyone has set up a custom connector using Forge or could point me to a guide that might help.

You could take a look at GetInt add-ons, for example this one: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1223999/gitlab-integration-for-jira-gitlab-connector-2-way-sync?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

It's an add-on for Jira, but it state is two-way sync. Give it a try
