We are currently in the process of trial running Structure, and I am trying to adapt it for use in one of the projects.
When I create a structure view, I can add generators and share the view and it works great. But as soon as I add a custom Text field (or reorder columns for example), it now says that I need to save the view for this to propagate to others.
Unfortunately I can't, when I click on burger button, it says that I do not have permissions. I have all the permissions for Jira project and our admins say that they have no idea where to look for the problem.
Hello @Iurii Gazin
This is normal - the Basic view cannot be updated (as well as other predefined views such as Planning); you can only adjust it locally in your browser. You can update any custom view and/or click 'Save as' after making changing to the Basic view, and creating a new view that you can share with everyone else.
I hope this helps. If you have more questions about Structure, please reach out to us directly at our support portal.
Best regards,

Hi Stepan,
Thanks for the answer. I don't think that is that though. My actions to reproduce it:
1. Click Create Structure
2. Select Blank structure
3. Give it any name, click Create
4. Click Add -> Insert -> Basic Insert
5. Select Space, click Create
6. I get the view with three columns: Summary, Key and Progress. That works
7. Reorder Key and Progress column (swap them by dragging)
8. PROBLEM: A small blue dot appears near burger-menu button on the right of the view. When clicked, the popup has "View was modified" attachment with blue dot and Save button is disabled with "You do not have permissions to update this view"

My reply above still applies. You created a structure, and by default, the 'Basic' view - the combination of displayed columns - is being used in it. The basic view indeed includes only 3 columns in it: Summary, Key, and Progress. When you rearrange the columns (or add/delete columns), it introduces a change in the view's configuration (the blue dot indicator appears). Until it's saved, the change is only visible to you because it exists locally in the browser; other users do not see it when they use the same view.
The limitation here is that the predefined views such as 'Basic' view cannot be modified; it's impossible to change them. I.e. you can still adjust them to your needs locally, but these changes cannot be saved for all users who use this view. Hence why the 'Save' option on the menu is greyed out and the message is shown in the pop-up window.
What you can do here is use the 'Save as' option, then you'll create a new view with the same set of columns (and their current order). With the custom new view, you'll be able to save changes in it when you want, and share the view with other users.
You can find more about the views - what they are, how to use them, how to share them - in our documentation here.
Best regards,
Stepan

ah. I was confused by Save As and how this works, I assumed this will create new structure and did not realize that views are actually a sub-entity in the structure. This now makes sense.
Thanks for the help
