The latest Company Calendar update introduces support for customizable calendar resources in Jira. In addition to assignee-based planning, issues can now be scheduled and visualized based on shared resources.
This approach is useful in scenarios where work is not primarily tied to people, but to equipment, rooms, or other limited resources. Examples include manufacturing planning, release coordination, or managing recurring operational activities.
With this update, work can be planned around resource availability rather than individual assignees, enabling a more accurate representation of real capacity constraints.
Non-human resource-based calendars can be used to:
plan work around machines or production lines
coordinate usage of shared spaces such as rooms or labs
visualize schedules for non-human resources alongside existing Jira data
This functionality extends existing calendar views and does not replace assignee-based planning. Teams can continue to use both approaches depending on their planning needs.
