Adding Inline LaTeX Formulas in Confluence: What Works for You?

Have you ever tried pasting LaTeX syntax like $\Sigma$ directly into a Confluence page — only to see plain text instead of a properly formatted inline formula?

Inline LaTeX Formulas doesn't work in confluence.jpg

That’s because Confluence treats your syntax as normal text rather than a formula. As a result, some teams turn to workarounds, such as inserting formulas as inline images. While this approach might be fine for occasional use, screenshots don’t scale well and can quickly become difficult to manage and update.

A more reliable approach is to use a dedicated LaTeX app for Confluence that supports:

  • Inline formulas (fully integrated in text)

  • Block formulas (displayed as separate equation elements)

One example is LaTeX Math for Confluence, developed by our team and available on the Atlassian Marketplace, which helps keep formulas consistent across Confluence Cloud pages.

How does your team handle inline LaTeX formulas in Confluence? Do you rely on screenshots, apps, or something else? Would be great to hear your approach 👇
