The Jira board you’ve been waiting for

SCR-20260601-smwm.png

If you’ve spent any time on Jira feature request tickets like JRACLOUD-85680  or JRACLOUD-85694 , you already know the frustration. You want to pull issues from multiple projects onto a single board. You want to customise which fields show on your cards. You want columns mapped to something other than status. And you want it all to work the same way whether you’re in a team-managed or company-managed space.

These are requests that have been open for years. And every workaround (filters, dashboards, third-party hacks) gets you partway there but never quite solves the underlying problem: Jira’s board views are inconsistent, limited, and surprisingly rigid for a tool this powerful.

We built BetterBoard  to fix that.

What it does

BetterBoard is a completely new board experience for Jira, built on Forge and running on Atlassian. Here’s what’s different:

  • Cross-project boards. Pull work from Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Jira Product Discovery onto one board. Team-managed, company-managed, or both.
  • Multiple boards per space. Sprint view, customer queue, leadership review, personal triage. Each one is its own board, all reading from the same source of truth.
  • Any field on every card. Custom fields, labels, fix versions, time in status, blockers, formulas. You choose what shows up.
  • Columns mapped to any field. Not locked to status. Map columns to priority, category, or whatever fits your workflow.
  • Keyboard-first. ⌘K to do almost anything. Single-key shortcuts for assign, label, flag, status. Bulk-edit a dozen items without opening a modal.
  • Time in status. Right on the card. See how long each item has been sitting in its current column.
  • Private and shared boards. Build a personal view, share it when it’s ready.
  • Real-time multiplayer. Move a card on one screen, it moves on every other screen instantly.
  • Conditional card colors. Coming very soon!

It’s built on Atlassian Forge, so your data stays in your Atlassian instance. Nothing to host, nothing to configure beyond installation.

What early users are saying

Jamie Sawyer, a 15+ year Atlassian veteran and founder of Echidna Solutions, put it well:

“Went in with a bit of a cynical hat on, but actually, the card customisation, non-status column mappings, and options for a keyboard-driven UX feel like a real value-add here. As someone that’s normally an advocate for ‘keep your Atlassian instances as vanilla as possible’, it’s got me actively thinking about how this could help with process improvement work I’ve been doing with customers.”

He also flagged the Forge-based architecture as a genuine plus for enterprise environments where Connect app security reviews slow things down.

And Jacek Jaroczynski, CEO at HeroCoders:

“This is the part of Jira I’ve never liked working with and that has desperately needed a revamp. And here it is. Glad you decided to pick up the gauntlet and tackle it.”

Who built this

I’m Jens Schumacher, former Head of Product for Jira Software at Atlassian. Together with a team of ex-Atlassians, we’ve been building tools for Jira teams at Released  for the past three years. BetterBoard started as a board we built for Released to product teams share their roadmaps, and it turns out a lot of teams needed the same thing in Jira spaces.
