Hi Atlassian Community! 👋
We’re excited to share a powerful new update to SnapAssign, designed to give teams even more control, flexibility, and clarity over how work gets assigned and managed inside Jira.
With this release, we’re rolling out Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Simplified Chinese UI support, and a range of security, UX, and performance improvements. Here's what's new:
One of the most powerful enhancements in this release is the introduction of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) — a long-awaited feature that puts precise permission management directly into your hands.
Whether you're working with small agile squads or large cross-functional teams, this new system allows you to define who can do what, where, and when — with clarity and confidence.
SnapAssign now includes two built-in roles: Team Member and Team Lead, covering common use cases right out of the box. But we didn’t stop there — you can also create custom roles tailored to your team’s workflow and organizational policies. Assign specific capabilities to roles such as managing time-offs, modifying shifts, editing assignment rules, or inviting new members.
This flexibility ensures that your team structure in Jira mirrors how your real-world teams actually operate.
At the team level, you now have granular control over essential functions:
This not only enhances operational security but also reduces the risk of unintentional changes by users without proper authorization.
With RBAC, sensitive actions and features are no longer globally visible to all users.
Only those with the appropriate permissions will see options like editing rules, modifying calendars, or managing team members. This ensures your team has a cleaner, safer, and more focused user experience, minimizing distraction and risk.
We’ve introduced a powerful new App Admin role that gives designated users full administrative access across the entire SnapAssign application. With this role, App Admins are no longer limited to individual team contexts — they can oversee all teams, manage their configurations, and ensure consistency in how SnapAssign is used throughout the organization.
From a centralized hub under Settings → General, App Admins can fine-tune global settings, supervise permissions, and maintain alignment with broader organizational policies. Whether it's coordinating shifts across departments, standardizing assignment rules, or managing user roles at scale, this new capability makes it significantly easier to delegate operational authority while keeping control streamlined and secure. With App Admins, you gain a true top-down management layer — clear, efficient, and built for scale.
SnapAssign is now more accessible than ever. We’ve fully localized the UI in Simplified Chinese, empowering more teams across the globe to assign smarter and collaborate better.
Your data, your control. Sensitive operations like role edits and assignment rule changes are now strictly permission-based, ensuring users can only view or change what they’re authorized for.
A cleaner experience, inside and out:
