📣 Smarter Agile charts, broader use cases – July 2025 updates from Broken Build 🚀

Hello Atlassian Community! 👋

The Broken Build team is back with another wave of Agile gadget improvements this July. Following our big June release, we’ve continued to refine and supercharge our Jira dashboard apps to help you track work more intuitively than ever. In this post, we’ll cover the July 2025 highlights for two of our popular gadgets – Agile Burnup Burndown Charts and Agile Cycle Time Chart – and how these updates make them easier, smarter, and more fun to use. Let’s dive in! 🚀

🧩 What’s new across the Agile charts: Agile Burnup Burndown Charts & Agile Cycle Time Chart

Our apps just got a bundle of enhancements that make getting started and drilling into your data a breeze. Here’s what’s new in the July update:

⚡ Template-driven charts for instant setup

Both gadgets now feature a brand-new Getting started page filled with pre-configured chart templates based on common Agile use cases.

🎯 Templates include:

⚙️ Each template comes with pre-filled settings - just click “Create Chart” to get started instantly:

🛠️ You can still adjust anything after selecting the template.

💡 It’s a huge time-saver – you get meaningful charts in seconds, which you can further tweak as needed (No more starting from a blank slate!)

If you're not sure which template is right for you, you can always start with the default chart creation option:

🗂️ Expanded data source options

You can now pull data from a wider range of Jira structures:

1. Project Scope: Releases

Allows you to track throughput for one or multiple releases.

💡 Tip: Use breakdown by release to understand the dynamics separately.

2. Project Scope: Jira Projects

Use this when you need to track progress across one or several projects.

3. Scrum boards with sprint filters

We’ve separated Scrum and Kanban board data source types (instead of using a single Jira board) to give you the ability to filter sprints specifically for your Scrum boards:

🔎 Advanced issue type filtering

We’ve added flexible controls to include or exclude specific issue types in your calculation:

The new issue type filter lets you fine-tune exactly which issue types contribute to the chart, so your charts focus on the work that matters.

💡 This granular filtering ensures cleaner, more relevant charts (no more odd blips from unexpected issue types!).

⏱️ Time tracking fields support

In addition to story points and issue counts, the Agile Burnup Burndown Charts gadget now lets you use time tracking fields (like Time Spent and Remaining Time) as your unit of progress:

To create a chart that displays both the completed work line and a forecast based on remaining work, utilize the integrated Time Spent and Remaining Time fields. When this field is selected, the chart uses the time spent values for completed work and the remaining time estimate to calculate the amount of work remaining.

💡 This gives a more realistic picture of effort and helps in forecasting delivery dates based on hours/days of work remaining – perfect for teams practicing time-based planning.

🤝 JSM and JPD support without any workarounds

Good news for teams beyond software development – Jira Service Management (JSM) projects and Jira Product Discovery (JPD) projects are now supported in Agile Cycle Time Charts out-of-the-box.

Before this version, you couldn’t use Jira Service Management and Jira Product Discovery projects as data sources smoothly - you had to tweak settings to select the specific issue types used in your projects, which made chart configuration cumbersome and not always transparent.

Since this version, the chart will display all standard issues from your projects by default:

All Jira project types are welcome! 🎉 Whether your team is fixing IT issues or brainstorming the next big product feature, you can include those workflows in your cycle time analysis without any hassle.

🧭 In-app navigation to other charts

To help you discover more reporting tools, our gadgets now feature a handy app menu in their edit screen, showcasing other Broken Build charts. You’re seeking Cycle Time insights, Time-in-Status measurement tools, and Forecasting capabilities - because having a complete view of the past, present, and future is essential to making informed decisions.

We also recognize that simply being aware of the broader solutions we offer is a value in itself.

That’s why we’ve introduced an app menu in the chart edit mode, giving creators easy access to explore other applications available in the Marketplace. We’ll also continue adding templates that showcase charts you can unlock by installing our chart bundle, Agile Reports and Gadgets.
