🎄 Out of Office Sync: Don’t Let Jira Forget You’re on Holiday!

The Christmas holidays are coming. 🎅 While you’re sipping mulled wine, building gingerbread houses, or trying to untangle fairy lights, your Jira issues and Microsoft calendar shouldn’t be left wondering where you’ve gone.

That’s where Out of Office Sync for Jira and Microsoft steps in, making sure your teammates know you’re away.

🎁 Silent Night, Unified Status

You set your Microsoft calendar to “Out of Office,” but Jira still thinks you’re available. By bridging the gap between Jira and Microsoft, your absence is reflected directly in Jira whenever someone assigns you an issue.

🎅 Santa’s Helper Problem (solved before it starts)

Imagine being assigned a Jira ticket on December 24th while you’re busy wrapping presents. By keeping Jira in sync with Microsoft, your teammates are immediately notified with a flag on the work item showing your out‑of‑office status - no surprises, no waiting, just holiday peace of mind.

🎄 The Automatic Gift Re‑Route

Just like Santa’s sleigh finding the right chimney, Jira Automations can use your synced out‑of‑office info to reroute tasks or trigger rules. That way, work keeps moving smoothly even while you’re sipping eggnog.

🎁 Key Takeways

  • Automatic Sync: Connects your Microsoft calendar with Jira so your out-of-office status is displayed when the ticket is assigned to you.
  • Smart Reassignment: Work items can be redirected to backup assignees while you’re away.
  • Visibility: Out‑of‑office flags appear right when tickets are assigned or when request participants are added, making collaboration on service management tasks smoother than ever. No more guessing games, your team knows who’s available to help.
  • Peace of Mind: You enjoy your holidays without worrying about missed tickets.

🎅 If Jira could sing a holiday tune, would it be ‘All I want for Christmas is
a synced calendar đŸŽ¶â€™ for your team? Share how your team handles availability during the holidays.
Looking forward to your insights!

Is it better than Out of office Automation for Jira (outlook, google, tempo)? Why i ask because there is so many options to choose and when your company have limited budget you allways need to get best option out of all options.

Sometimes is good to understand why i should choose one add-on over another if most fuction is that tickets will not stay on somebody assignee ho is out of office.

Hi @Urmo

Thanks for the question; it’s a valid one with so many apps out there.
Out of Office Sync for Jira and Microsoft focuses on real-time updates from Microsoft 365. Your OOO status is taken directly from your Outlook calendar and shown in Jira when an issue is assigned, without any manual input or extra configuration per user. Teams can also use this OOO data in Jira Automations to reroute tasks or trigger rules when someone is away.
Other apps may be better if you need Google support or manual planning in Jira. Configuring 1:1 covering would be too cumbersome at the moment, but if you want to handle work items with OOO assignees differently, whether that’s unassigning, reassigning to a group of users, or adapting to whatever matches your company’s workflows best, you can set that up using automations.
If your main goal is simply avoiding tickets, sitting with someone who’s away, the choice comes down to what fits your setup better:
  • broader multi-platform tools, or
  • direct Microsoft-to-Jira sync with real-time updates.
Happy to share more details if you are interested!
Cheers,
Klaida
