Navitabs on Forge: Faster, Safer, Future-Ready

Hey there!

I'm Elena from Elevatic.

We are excited to share that Navitabs – Navigation Macros for Confluence has migrated to Atlassian Forge, the next-generation app development framework for Confluence Cloud. Forge runs entirely within Atlassian's infrastructure, delivering a more secure, isolated runtime environment that improves security, data privacy, and operational reliability across Marketplace apps.

This transition keeps Navitabs fully compatible with Atlassian's evolving cloud ecosystem, setting the foundation for better performance, compliance, and future innovation.

Key Changes for Confluence Users

Here’s a summary of changes after updating to the Forge version:

1. “Create Your Own” Wizard
The iFrame and HTML options were removed from the “Create your own” wizard.
Forge’s stricter security framework prohibits direct embedding of custom HTML or external web content.

2. Legacy tab migration
Legacy tab macros now migrate into the new Forge-based Tab and Tab Group structure.
This includes supported legacy Navitabs, Macro Toolbox, and Responsive Tabs formats, preserving tab content, titles, icons, and nested tab groups where possible.

3. Integrated tab group look and feel
The Tab Group macro now has a more integrated Atlassian look and feel.
Tab navigation and content render more consistently, supporting newer Tab, Progress*, and Steps* styles, so migrated and new Tab Groups align closely with the native Confluence experience.

Updating to the Forge Version

Because this is a major framework change, you need to manually update Navitabs to the new Forge version.
You can do this by navigating to Manage Apps → Navitabs → Update in your Confluence settings.

What to Expect After Updating

  • The iFrame/HTML custom options are no longer supported.
  • You may notice slightly different behavior for complex nested macros due to Forge limitations.
  • Legacy Tab Macros are now migrated into the new Forge-based Tab and Tab Group structure.
  • The Tab Group Macro now features a more integrated Atlassian look.
  • Overall stability, compatibility, and security have been improved under the new architecture.

We recommend updating as soon as possible to stay aligned with future Confluence updates.

Looking Ahead

This Forge migration marks a significant step forward for Navitabs. While the current update focuses on compatibility and stability, it sets the stage for future improvements that are more flexible and secure.

If you encounter any issues or have suggestions, please reach out through our support portal. Your feedback continues to shape how Navitabs evolves on Forge.
