Confluence is a powerful collaboration tool, but when everyone has unrestricted access, clutter and misinformation can quickly build up. In some cases, it's wiser to keep certain information restricted to a select group.
By managing Confluence permissions effectively, you can bring order to the platform, ensure users only access what they need, and protect sensitive data from unnecessary exposure.
Protect sensitive information: By setting the right permissions, you can ensure that only the right users have access, reducing the risk of unauthorised viewing.
Maintain accuracy and relevance: Unrestricted editing can lead to incorrect information. If Confluence is your organisation's single source of truth, page restrictions help you safeguard the accuracy of your content.
Boost collaboration: Confluence is designed for teamwork, and managing restrictions effectively helps employees collaborate seamlessly in the right places.
Please note: To manage space permissions, you’ll need to be a Confluence admin or space admin in your chosen space(s).
On your selected Confluence page, click on the padlock icon in the top-right corner.
Use the dropdown menu to adjust the page permissions. You can choose from three permission levels:
"Anyone in the space can edit"
"Anyone in the space can view, only some can edit": You choose specific users who can edit the page while letting everyone else view it
"Only specific people can view or edit": You choose who can access or modify the page
To restrict access to specific people, enter the names of the users you wish to grant permissions for, then specify whether they can view or edit the page. Click "Add" and repeat for each user.
Click "Apply" to save your changes and notify users (or click "Apply" if you've disabled notifications).

Whether you’ve got a new team member to add to your Confluence content or you’re participating in cross-collaborating on confidential projects, updating many page restrictions one-by-one can be tedious and time-consuming.
Though you can’t bulk update page restrictions with Confluence’s native functionality, Panorama for Confluence will help you quickly update restrictions on up to 200 pages, across one or more spaces, from one handy control centre.
Follow along with the steps below, or click here for an interactive demo.
In Confluence, go to Apps >Panorama for Confluence.
In the Panorama control centre, add your spaces.
Choose the content for which you want to update restrictions.
Click Restrictions.
Click Apply to confirm your changes.
That’s it! You’ve successfully bulk-updated page restrictions.
