How to Visualize Linked Issues and Their Status in Jira Dashboards

If you’ve ever tried to track linked issues and their status in Jira dashboards, you may have noticed that there is no built-in gadget that shows an issue and all its linked items with their statuses.

We’ve seen so many users on the Atlassian Community ask the same question:

“How can I display issues together with their linked items and their statuses on a dashboard?”

Here’s a simple way to visualize linked issues statuses using the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) gadget offered by our Great Gadgets app for Jira and Confluence.

The Challenge: No Way To Display Linked Issues Status In Dashboard

Jira lets you link issues to track dependencies, but linked issues are only visible inside each issue’s detail view. So you have to click on each individual issue to see its linked items and their status.

While the Jira's Filter Results gadget can list linked items, it only shows the parent issue status - not the status of the linked items.

In other words:

• Linked issues and their statuses are only visible in the issue view screen.

• No built-in dashboard gadget displays linked issues and their statuses together.

• This makes it difficult to spot blockers, dependencies, and cross-team impacts quickly.

How to Set It Up

• Add the WBS gadget to your dashboard

  • Make sure you have Great Gadgets app installed.

  • Open your dashboard → Add Gadget → search for Work Breakdown Structure → click Add

• Configure the gadget

  • Select a filter or enter a JQL that returns the issues you want.

  • Choose to Expand all levels.

  • Switch Visualization Mode to Linked Issues View.

  • (Optional) Filter by status category (To Do, In Progress, Done) to show only issues in specific stages
