As Atlassian continues its shift toward a cloud-first future, Forge has become the foundation for modern cloud apps. Naturally, we’re moving in that direction as well.
Content Formatting Toolkit (CFT) is now the first content formatting Confluence app fully built on Forge, and officially 100% Runs on Atlassian.
Content Formatting Toolkit is a dynamic macro toolkit designed to help teams create structured, engaging, and intuitive Confluence pages. It offers a wide range of interactive layouts and macros that enhance navigation and improve readability, from Tabs and Expanders to Progress Bars, Panels, Footnotes, and many more.
This migration was not simply about keeping up with platform changes. Transitioning CFT to Forge strengthens how the app handles security, data, and performance, while keeping the experience exactly the same for teams using it every day. The improvements are mostly behind the scenes, but they reinforce the foundation the app runs on.
đź”’Built-in Security & Compliance:
CFT now operates entirely within Atlassian Cloud, without external servers or third-party hosting layers. Customer data does not leave Atlassian’s ecosystem, reducing security exposure and aligning the app with Atlassian’s cloud governance standards. For organizations with strict security and compliance requirements, this provides additional reassurance.
🌍Hosting & Data Residency:
Data residency is aligned with Confluence’s supported regions. App data and logs follow the same regional configuration as your Confluence instance, giving organizations clearer visibility and control over where their information is stored, and helping meet regional compliance needs more easily.
⚡Performance & Scalability:
This move also supports stronger reliability as teams grow. By leveraging Atlassian’s distributed cloud infrastructure, CFT delivers more consistent performance across regions and scales more smoothly alongside expanding Confluence environments.
With the transition to Forge and the absence of any external data egress, CFT has now earned the Runs on Atlassian badge.
This means the app operates fully within Atlassian’s cloud ecosystem, with no data leaving the platform. All customer data remains inside Atlassian’s infrastructure. This also makes CFT eligible for upcoming trust initiatives such as the A4A Trust Program.
For the most part, your day-to-day experience with CFT remains the same. Your existing macros, pages and content continue to function, and there are no major changes to how you interact with the app.
That said, due to the way Forge handles rendering, you may face some limitations where certain macros behave slightly differently in specific scenarios (for example, nested macro setups or some visual elements).
We’re actively working with Atlassian on improving these cases, and you can find more details in our documentation here: 👉 CFT Forge Limitations Guideline
Overall, this transition strengthens the app’s security, stability, and long-term reliability, while keeping the experience familiar for your team.
