Why do epic tickets show up on the Agile board work mode view?

I'm looking at the Work mode - to do, in progress, done.

I have a story within an Epic in the sprint.

Why does the parent Epic show up by itself in the To Do column? How am I supposed to clear out all the To do/in progress if the Epic is listed there, and another story under the Epic will be in a later sprint?

check whether the Epic has been written into the Sprint ID?

duh! wonder how that happened. just removed the sprint that got assigned to the Epic. thanks
