New “Create Work Item” Dialog: A More Streamlined Experience for Plan Timeline Users

Kickstarting the week with a small improvement on Jira Plans to make your planning a little easier, we’re excited to announce a redesign of the “Create Work Item” dialog in the Plan timeline experience.

✨ What’s New?

• Unified Dialog: All fields are now available in a single, streamlined form, meaning no more navigating nested menus.

• “Create Another” Checkbox: Quickly create multiple work items in a row without leaving the dialog.

• Direct Group Creation: A new + button on group headers lets you create work items directly within a group.

🛠️ How to Get Started

1. Open your Plan timeline.

2. Click the “Create Work Item” button (or the new + on a group header).

3. Fill out the form and check “Create another” if you want to add more items.

4. Save and watch your plan update instantly!

All users of the Plan timeline feature in Jira Cloud.

Hmm... I'll have to try this one out. By looking at it, I'm kinda divided between old and new experiences. 👀

For the new experience, any plans on adding additional fields (incl. custom ones) inside the dialog?

I think ideally it would be identical to the regular "create new work item" screen.
The list of available projects and/or work items could be scoped based on the sources for the Plan.

I wish the plus sign would also be at the bottom row like it's in the regular project timeline. If the list/timeline is grouped by e.g. projects, then the plus sign should be visible under all groups and the project should be selected automatically.
