At Advanced Roadmaps plan, I wanted to expose a field from our jira issue, which is a custom field. I don't seem to be able to find it in the field search.
I know Adv Roadmaps has its own Custom Field capability, but I thought it is layered and kept separately from the jira issues custom fields. Is it not?
Hi @Sam - Advanced Roadmaps has the ability to show custom fields that have been set up in Jira, but it doesn't have a separate set of custom fields to the Jira issue custom fields.
You can take a look at our documentation for viewing custom fields in Advanced Roadmaps for more info on getting them displayed.
Something to note is that Advanced Roadmaps only supports the following custom field types and any others are unfortunately not possible to show in your plan:
team
checkbox
date picker
user picker (single user)
number
radio button
single-choice select
multiple-choice select
single-line text
URL (read-only)
Cheers,
Daniel
To prefix, I am trying this on Data Center v9.x.
In my project, I have some custom fields already defined in the jira issues, e.g. "Planned Effort".
In the plan, I clicked on "Fields" to try to find it for display. Typing in the search box, nothing matches.
Do I need to add a new custom field in Plans when my jira issue already has that custom field?
That's correct - by default Advanced Roadmaps doesn't get to see the custom fields that you've created on your issues, so you'll need to go into the configuration and "add" them.
To clarify, this doesn't create a new custom field for your issue, it just makes the existing field you've created visible in Advanced Roadmaps.
Thanks for the heads up you're on Data Center! The process should look very similar, but I've included a few steps below to hopefully make it a bit easier. Let me know if you run into any problems and I'd be happy to try and help out.
1. Open your plan configuration
2. Navigate to "Add custom field"
3. Select your custom field and add it
4. From here you can add your custom field to the fields on your timeline
Thanks for the detailed description, I will try that.
What kind of roles/permissions would I need to be able to add custom fields in the plan? Project Admin, etc.?
No problem at all!
Advanced Roadmaps has it's own permission system that makes use of the Jira user groups so it's hard to say exactly which role you need without knowing how that's set up on your instance, but as long as you have the ability to view, edit and create a plan you should be able to go through these steps.
ok. understood.
If my plan is using days instead of Story points, is the "Estimates" column stored only in ARM or it is actually stored/coming from the jira issue itself?
You will see the estimates field on the issue. If you change the estimate on the board you will see it reflected on the ticket and vice versa.
Ok, I will request to make that field visible in my project then.
I appreciate your responses, is there a documentation that actually describes that mapping so that I can be knowledgeable about how to use ARM?
So the best I can offer you in terms of documentation without going out to search for it specifically would be to start here and then take a look at the tutorials
There is also a course on atlassian university, but keep in mind this is not free. Maybe your company will foot the bill as it seems pretty reasonable :) .
